Eagle Point – Blue Rapids Park Management Plan

Client Eagle Point – Blue Rapids Parks Council
Location Drayton Valley | Alberta | Canada

Eagle Point Provincial Park and Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area, together referred to as Eagle Point - Blue Rapids, are newly established protected areas stretching across 53 km of the North Saskatchewan River in Brazeau County, Alberta. Together they protect the natural and cultural landscape features of a contiguous stretch of the North Saskatchewan River riparian corridor. The establishment of Eagle Point – Blue Rapids represents a landmark achievement in community based park planning and management in Alberta.

Eagle Point – Blue Rapids is a significant outdoor recreation destination for the residents of Central Alberta, providing a diversity of motorized and non-motorized outdoor recreational opportunities. The initiative to create the parks was an effort to bring better management to the area and to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities. As a largely forested riparian corridor within the North Saskatchewan River Watershed, the area also provides important natural services related to water and air quality, flood management, and wildlife habitat.

O2 supported the development of the Draft Management Plan to provide background and descriptive information as well as proposed management objectives and strategies. The plan is to be used primarily by the Government of Alberta’s Department of Tourism, Parks and Recreation; the Parks Council; stakeholders such as volunteers, leaseholders, and special interest groups; and the general public. The plan serves to inspire the ethic in which the parks were created: innovative ideas, environmental stewardship, and community collaboration.
