The Kananaskis Country Facility Detailed Design project proposes upgrades to day use areas and campgrounds in Kananaskis Country. Many of these facilities of which have had not been improved since they were built in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The sites, spread throughout Kananaskis Country, in the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, range from a 200-site campground to a secluded mountain trailhead. O2 was retained to provide detailed designs and to prepare a full set of construction drawings and specifications.

Much of the work required to upgrade the sites was done to increase capacity, as Kananaskis Country is becoming an increasingly popular recreation destination. In addition to repaving and enlarging parking areas, the detailed designs include replacing washrooms, paving new trails, and repaving existing trails. The firm’s plan also includes redesigned picnic areas for universal accessibility where possible, redesigned parking lot circulation to accommodate buses and recreational vehicles, new drainage and erosion control measures, reclaimed and reforested informal trails and picnic sites, and new pedestrian bridges and fishing docks.
