Kaska Forest Resources Environmental Assessment Report

Client Kaska Forest Resources
Location Yukon Territory | Canada

O2 completed an Environmental Assessment Report (EAR) of the proposed (2001 – 2010) Kaska Forest Resources Project, a sustainable timber harvest project on Liard Nation Lands in the southeastern Yukon. The environmental assessment was prepared in consultation with the Environment Directorate of the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (DIANA) and a number of other government organizations at the federal and territorial levels.

The guiding principle of the environmental assessment report is sustainability, for the forest and its associated ecosystems, and for the Liard First Nation’s economic return.

The EAR was the first major effort in evaluating the impacts associated with a forestry project in the Yukon Territory. O2 made use of state-of-the-art geographic information systems and modelling technology to examine spatial impacts of harvesting and subsequent restoration of the forest over the life of the project.
