Lake Louise Community Plan

Client Parks Canada
Location Banff | Alberta | Canada

O2 completed a long-range development framework for the Hamlet of Lake Louise in Banff National Park. The plan’s focus provided a mechanism by which park and community officials can make effective and strategic planning decisions, guiding the future of Lake Louise while maintaining the national park’s cultural and natural integrity.

In developing an effective plan for Lake Louise, O2 created a unique planning approach that clearly outlined specific design parameters for development, defining acceptable development, where it can occur, and how it should look. In addition, O2 addressed pedestrian circulation and linkage paths, vehicular circulation and parking, land use designation, wildlife issues, and landscape strategies.

Detailed architectural, landscape, and urban design recommendations relating to scale of development, massing, building type, materials, and contribution to village character were included. Emphasis on computer-aided visualization with detailed graphic representation significantly increased the public’s understanding and acceptance of the proposed development guidelines.
