Marcelo is a Senior Planner at O2 where he provides project management and mentors staff on project structure, processes, methods and content as well as overall professional planning development. He is a passionate city building advocate to enable better cities, suburbs and regions through urban design and sustainability, exploring urbanism through innovative lenses and ideas.
Marcelo holds a Master of Environmental Design (Planning) and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Fundacao Armando Alvares Penteado in Brazil. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) with more than 10 years of Canadian professional experience. He has participated as Project Manager or Lead Designer in award winning projects developed by interdisciplinary teams for both the private sector and municipalities. He has a track record of designing and delivering plans aimed at creating communities that are complete, resilient and affordable, balancing sustainable development with a respect for diversity in values, cultures, and distinct places.
Marcelo is also actively involved in professional planning initiatives in Canada and Alberta as a conference speaker and as volunteer to committees and boards. He regularly shares his planning views and experiences in blogs and articles which have appeared on the APPI Journal, Spacing Magazine (Edmonton), Urbantimes and other professional publications. In addition, Marcelo was a member of the City of Edmonton Subdivision Development and Appeal Board appointed by City Council from 2010 - 2014.
