Central Oshawa MTSA

Client City of Oshawa
Location Toronto | Ontario | Canada

To imagine the perceived home of auto manufacturing in Canada, transform into a transit-oriented community would have been only a dream a decade ago. However, today Oshawa and Metrolinx are defining a new and exciting vision for the City through investment in transit expansion and plans for complete communities.

Central Oshawa will be one of several Major Transit Station Areas (MTSA), servicing Durham Region. The Lakeshore East GO Line will extend to Bowmanville and create several new stations that are being planned as transit-oriented communities. The Central Oshawa MTSA will bring and estimated 25,000 people to the City within this 170 hectare site. Unlike other greenfield developments, this MTSA is centred on an existing neighbourhood with site servicing, roads, and amenities. The planning of the MTSA will create a balance of residents and jobs per hectare, in accordance with provincial targets for intensification.

O2 is the land use planning and urban design leads to Parsons on the Central Oshawa MTSA Study. Working with the City of Oshawa, Durham Region and Metrolinx, our work is defining the overall distribution of density, infrastructural upgrades and investments, typologies and built form of development, open space strategy, and protection of natural/cultural heritage. Ultimately, Central Oshawa will transform into an important node, bridging the community with the historic Downtown and civic heart of the City.
