Protection Mountain Campground
Location Protection Mountain | Alberta | Canada
Protection Mountain Campground was revitalized following closure of the campground due to a mountain pine beetle infestation. Hazardous tree clearing program was undertaken in 2011, resulting in the majority of the existing trees being removed from the RV and tent camping loops. Parks Canada had identified the need for a design to incorporate larger sized RVs within the Park to accomodate the growing popularity of larger recreational vehicles in recent years.
O2 Planning + Design was contracted in 2015 to lead the revitalization strategy, concept design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration of revitalizing the campground to accomodate the future needs of Parks Canada and their visitors. The campsite provides 57 large RV sites and 15 small RV sites with tent pads. Updgrades to the campground included renovated washrooms and shelters, service amentities, and a widened entry to accomodate RVs. Additionally, 2 accessible campsites are provided adjacent to the campground facilities improving the quality of the visitor experience in the campground.
