The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning is a one-of-a-kind institute that combines the latest in advanced learning technology with academic research of the most effective methods for engaging students. Located on the former Nickle Arts Museum site, the landscape design was carefully considered to combine: a new formal entry plaza to the campus, the expansion of the Schulich School of Engineering landscape immediately adjacent, and portions of the existing Nickle Museum landscape.

The landscape is focused along a central spine which extends from the front entry plaza, through the main hall, and into the campus green on the other side of the building. By locating outdoor social areas adjacent to the spine, the transition between interior and exterior of the building are blurred; and students, faculty and visitors are encouraged to spill out from the building to gather in the outdoor spaces.
